Lakewood Builds Home for Veterans

Friday, July 16th, 2010

Years after an earthquake destroyed their home, the veterans living in Lakewood will receive their new home at the American Lake VA. The home will feature 83 residental units, a hospice center, a rehab center, and a dedicated home for Alzheimers and dementia.

The home is scheduled it open this summer, after just a few more finishing touches are completed. There are 55 residents slated to move in immediately.

The center will feature some eco-friendly construction, and – of course, some soundproofing to protect them from the sounds of nearby aircraft. We can’t wait to see the veterans get the new home they deserve!

Sleeping Easy at the Starwood

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

We know how hard it is to find a really good hotel. If you’re on vacation, you may not feel as picky, but if you constantly travel for business you know how devastating it can be to be deprived of good sleep night after night.

We particularly like the Starwood Hotel and Resort (part of the Sheraton chain) in France. The hotel offers a wide variety of room selections, all with sweet sleeper beds, separate showers, buffet breakfasts, and more.

But what do we like most? The high tech soundproofing materials they used to ensure you are able to be as relaxed as possible in your room. Now that’s service.

Installing Green Glue is Easy!

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

We’ve spoken a lot about Green Glue on this blog, but we know you’re still a bit apprehensive. Today we want to share a short video outlining exactly how easy it is to install a sheet of Green Glue with a new layer of drywall. You won’t believe your eyes!

The Scatz Nightclub is Saved

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

A Middleton, Wisconsin nightclub known as the Scatz was feared doomed. Guests at a nearby hotel continuously called in noise complaints and, at one point, the nightclub was deemed a chronic nuisance.

As a chronic nuisance, the city held the right to bill the club for each time it had to send police to the establishment. The club just agreed to spend $85,000 on additional soundproofing measures, hopefully cutting down on the number of calls and complaints.

New Dehli Waiter Arrested

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

A hotel waiter in New Dehli was arrested last week after he was accused of drugging a guest in the hotel. The hotel was a jeweler and the waiter drugged him so that he could rob his room. Before he was arrested he had taken a total of 8 credit cards, diamonds, gold jewelry, and two cell phones.

This is just another reason why all hotel guests should take advantage of front desk or inroom safes. It doesn’t matter who you are when you travel. A hotel can have the best reputation in the world but they can’t ensure the reputations of all of their staff members!

Hotel Reservations Drop in China

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Another sign of the changing times? Hotel performance in China dropped nearly 25% over the past year. Researchers blame it on the economy but could it be something more?

Hotels actually saw a surge in hotel business during 2008, when the summer Olympics were held in Beijing. The Olympics drew attention to China, and the rest of Asia, and gave them longstanding extra business.

Tourism throughout China is still relatively high. Hopefully hotels will be able to recoup some of their losses very soon.

4th Quarter Hotel Profits Up in 2009

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

The economy is slowly but surely beginning to improve. During the fourth quarter of 2009, Choice Hotels International saw a 26% increase in profits – an almost unprecedented number considering the amount of slowdown most hotel chains have been experiencing.

Choice Hotels hopes to see their 1st quarter 2010 earnings rise as well. They anticipate a rather large jump, increasing 25 cents per share to roughtly $1.70 each. Thank goodness for growth. Hopefully jobs will follow!
