Reducing Hotel Noise Complaints

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Noise complaints are amongst the most prevalent type of complaint in any hotel. Tenents simply don’t want to hear the noise coming from the lobby – or from the room next door – while they’re trying to relax.

They’re paying good money for their stay in your hotel and, as such, you need to find an answer to noise problems. You should, of course, be soundproofing your rooms.

We’re going to take some time to start telling you a bit more about soundproofing, techniques, and materials. Before you know it you’ll be able to create a master plan for fixing the noise problems in your hotel – large or small!

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Starwood Hotels & Resorts announced plans to expand further into China at the Reuters Travel and Leisure Summit in NYC just recently. They plan to eventually see as much as 25% of their annual earnings coming from Asian markets.

The company curently has about 50 hotels in China already. They plan to add another 50 or more over the next few years, making the Asian market larger than its USA market. Fears about the US market not growing are spurring the changes.

New Dehli Waiter Arrested

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

A hotel waiter in New Dehli was arrested last week after he was accused of drugging a guest in the hotel. The hotel was a jeweler and the waiter drugged him so that he could rob his room. Before he was arrested he had taken a total of 8 credit cards, diamonds, gold jewelry, and two cell phones.

This is just another reason why all hotel guests should take advantage of front desk or inroom safes. It doesn’t matter who you are when you travel. A hotel can have the best reputation in the world but they can’t ensure the reputations of all of their staff members!

Hotel Reservations Drop in China

Another sign of the changing times? Hotel performance in China dropped nearly 25% over the past year. Researchers blame it on the economy but could it be something more?

Hotels actually saw a surge in hotel business during 2008, when the summer Olympics were held in Beijing. The Olympics drew attention to China, and the rest of Asia, and gave them longstanding extra business.

Tourism throughout China is still relatively high. Hopefully hotels will be able to recoup some of their losses very soon.

The economy is slowly but surely beginning to improve. During the fourth quarter of 2009, Choice Hotels International saw a 26% increase in profits – an almost unprecedented number considering the amount of slowdown most hotel chains have been experiencing.

Choice Hotels hopes to see their 1st quarter 2010 earnings rise as well. They anticipate a rather large jump, increasing 25 cents per share to roughtly $1.70 each. Thank goodness for growth. Hopefully jobs will follow!
